Hydrants and Pump System Maintenance
Building Owners/Occupiers are required to keep fire maintenance records to prove they are providing a safe place and meet their obligations under the Queensland Development Code MP6.1. This news post describes the legislative context in Queensland.
The intent of maintenance is to ensure the fire brigade can depend on the hydrant system when its needed.
HTC takes the legislative pressure from building owners by managing the inspections and producing an Annual Occupier Statement. We don’t charge to rectify defects until we have explained the defect, why its important and received your approval.
5 Yearly Hydrant Maintenance
Hydrant systems incorporating a booster cabinet are boost tested and hydrostatically tested every 5 years. The intent of these tests is to replicate the fire brigade response to a fire to ensure the system is performing effectively.
The 5 yearly boost flow test calculates the site working pressure and verifies that the system is capable of delivering the required flow and pressure.
A maintenance hydrostatic pressure test ensures the valves and pipework are capable of withstanding the pressure fluctuations that the fire brigade put on the system while fighting a fire. Valves, gauges and check valves are overhauled to ensure the system is working effectively.
The report documents the AS1851 checks and test results and is used as evidence that you are maintaining your hydrant system and are complying with legislation.
